Jo Wood – Individual Award Nominee – 2010

“Linda has a leading role in the campaign to challenge attitudes in Scotland on the emotive and often marginalised issue of commercial sexual exploitation: Challenging Demand. Her ability to facilitate and engage on the often polarising subjects of pornography and prostitution has been strengthened by her empathy and sensitivity as a leader, woman and professional. Linda is both charismatic and challenging, one doesn’t satisfy oneself with just being present on the day, and Linda creates a level of awareness of the sexual exploitation faced by women and children where inaction is no longer a default position. Linda engages with me as a woman, worker, sister, daughter, friend, neighbour and aunt. At the heart of her awareness raising workshops she speaks up and out in protecting the human rights of women and children, ultimately investing in the protection of generations to come. Taking action is what I’m inspired to do… no longer feeling a bystander in relation to these issues and ultimately inspiring me to truly know what empowerment feels like!”
