Zohra is a tireless campaigner for women’s rights. She is a Women’s Rights Adviser for ActionAid providing advice to organisations working for women’s rights and raising awareness through her writing on violence and associated issues. She is a Trustee of the UK Gender and Development Network and co-chair of their Violence Against Women and Girls subgroup, an adviser for Asylum Aid’s Women’s Project and an adviser for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation Poverty and Ethnicity Programme and a permanent blogger for the F-Word.

In her role as Women’s Rights Advisor for ActionAid, she has delivered strong and impactful advocacy and campaigns, supported by policy and publications that really champion the voices and opinions of women affected by violence. Recent examples include her authorship of ActionAid’s report for the London Family Planning Summit “Sex, Choice and Control: the reality of family planning for women and girls today” which was used to lobby the organisers of the Summit to call on governments attending to commit to reducing violence as a key barrier to women realising their right to choose when and whether to have children.
