Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum (NDVF)
NDVF have been delivering awareness raising sessions in primary schools since 2001. In 2010 NDVF consolidated all of their learning alongside consulting with pupils and teachers to develop The GREAT Project (Good Relationships are Equal And Trusting). The GREAT Project delivered over 4 x 2hour sessions with year six pupils; raises awareness about domestic violence, improves access to support services to support children experiencing domestic violence, educates to change attitudes to prevent domestic violence incidents in the future and empowers young people to aspire towards healthy relationships.
Since commencing in September 2010, 994 pupils have accessed The GREAT Project. 92% of pupils have stated that The GREAT Project has made them think ‘a lot’ about their behaviour with their classmates, and on completion of the project 90% of pupils were able to identify abusive behaviour and 92% able to recall two support services.
The GREAT Project has been consistently funded by Nottingham City Crime and Drugs Partnership. Since 2011 it has also been funded by Safer Nottinghamshire Board. Furthermore, following the success of The GREAT Project primary schools in Nottingham now contribute £450 towards the cost of each project.
