After an eight-year campaign Hannana and Southall Black Sisters succeeded in getting the government to significantly change rulings that trapped immigrant women in violent marriages. When the ruling was overturned, it made it possible for women to prove that they were facing domestic violence and therefore were exempt from having to stay with their abusive partners.
